Choose Chicago celebrates ninth annual International Greeter Day with series of free, volunteer-led tours

Thirteen guided tours will be offered in neighborhoods across Chicago and with multiple staggered start times to maximize accessibility

CHICAGO (September 4, 2024) – Choose Chicago is excited to announce its celebration of International Greeter Day on Saturday, September 7 with a series of free, volunteer-led tours of some of the city’s most vibrant and historic neighborhoods. This annual event honors the global Greeter program, which connects visitors and locals with volunteer “Greeters” for personalized, insider tours of cities across the world.

“What makes Chicago truly exceptional is the rich diversity of its people, its storied history, and the vibrant evolution of our communities,” said Rich Gamble, Interim President & CEO of Choose Chicago. “Among us, there is a remarkable group of individuals who serve as ambassadors for both visitors and residents – our greeters. On International Greeter Day, we are delighted to honor these dedicated individuals who share their unique perspectives and passions, showcasing what makes Chicago the best city in the world. We invite you to explore the city through the eyes of these enthusiastic Chicagoans, who are eager to share their knowledge and stories with you.”

For over 20 years, the Chicago Greeter program has long been a beloved and free way to discover the hidden gems of Chicago’s neighborhoods through the eyes of a local volunteer. This year’s International Greet Day event will feature 13 guided tours, offering an intimate look at neighborhoods like Chinatown, Pilsen, Bronzeville, Uptown, Hyde Park, Andersonville, and the Loop as well as iconic sites like Millennium Park and the Chicago Riverwalk.
