CHOOSE CHICAGO ANNOUNCES BILLY NESNIDAL AND VASHON JORDAN, JR., AS 2024 ARTISTS OF THE YEAR
The recognition of both as Co-Artists of the Year underscores Choose Chicago’s dedication to promoting local voices and elevating Chicago’s beauty
CHICAGO, IL (April 17, 2024) – Choose Chicago is proud to announce Vashon Jordan Jr. and Billy Nesnidal as the 2024 Co-Artists of the Year. Through this program, Choose Chicago selects local artists who exemplify the spirit of Chicago and commissions artwork to use for gift-giving opportunities throughout the year, including to present to major convention clients as tokens of appreciation for bringing their events to our city.
“With so many incredible working artists based here in Chicago, it is difficult to select just one to recognize with the title of ‘Artist of the Year,’” said Rich Gamble, Interim President and CEO of Choose Chicago. “By selecting two artists this year, we hope to demonstrate our commitment to celebrating the breadth of Chicago’s art scene and the depth of local artists. Both Vashon and Billy’s work embodies the spirit of our city—vibrant, diverse, and constantly evolving.”
Vashon Jordan Jr., a 24-year-old visual artist from the South Side, is known for his captivating photography and videography that authentically represents Chicago’s communities. His commitment to youth engagement and storytelling aligns with the city’s vision of promoting local culture and talent. Jordan will continue in his role as Artist of the Year after serving in this capacity in 2023.
Vashon Jordan Jr. added, “Being recognized alongside Billy is an incredible honor. We both share a love for Chicago, and this opportunity allows us to showcase our city in new and exciting ways.”
Billy Nesnidal, a world traveler and photographer, brings a unique perspective through his lens, capturing the beauty of over 30 countries while maintaining a deep passion for his hometown of Chicago. His work showcases a range of subjects and themes, from iconic global scenes to distinctively charming Chicago neighborhoods.
Billy Nesnidal expressed his appreciation for this title, saying, “I am thrilled to be Co-Artist of the Year with Vashon. It’s a privilege to represent our hometown and share its stories through our art.”
