A lonely symbol of the vanished stockyards, the 1879 Stone Gate is the work of Burnham & Root, who did other projects for the stockyards’ owners. This tripartite gate marked the entrance to the animal pens and is flanked by pedestrian arches. Above the central arch is a relief of Sherman, the steer that won the American Fat Stock show in 1878.
