To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Chicago Tribune held an international contest to design the most beautiful office tower in the world. The New York firm of Howells & Hood won and the result is the 36 story gothic Indiana limestone Tribune Tower finished in 1925. The tower’s main features are the octagonal tower rising to a spidery crowning silhouette and the ornate 3 story arched entryway that contains depictions from Aesop’s fables. Embedded in the exterior walls are stones from well known buildings around the world.
