Built in 1998 as a gift from the City to the Little Italy area, Piazza DiMaggio has a fountain and two monuments commemorating Joe DiMaggio. The statue of Joe DiMaggio in the plaza was dedicated in 1991 to celebrate his 50 year anniversary of his 56-game hitting streak which is still a record today.
