Founded in 1976, the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago is the only museum in the Midwest dedicated exclusively to photography and one of few medium specific institutions worldwide.
Since beginning its permanent collection in 1979, MoCP has acquired over 17,500 works by nearly 2,000 artists representing the ever-expanding definition of photography showcasing a vast breadth of content, technique, and representation from emerging practices, and a growing number of international artists.
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, MoCP is a vital part of Chicago’s artistic, cultural, and educational landscape. As an academic art museum, we bridge contemporary art, civic dialogue, and education—presenting three to five annual exhibitions alongside robust public programs including lectures, panel discussions, artist talks, print viewings, and community engagement initiatives.
MoCP also publishes artist monographs and exhibition catalogues and actively supports arts education through programs for K–12 students, higher education institutions, and lifelong learners.
Committed to critical inquiry and inclusive public engagement, MoCP continues to provide groundbreaking exhibitions, innovative programs, and experiential events to cultivate a deeper understanding of the artistic, cultural, and political roles of photography in our world today.
MoCP is admission free and open six days a week! To learn more, stop by the museum or visit our website at mocp.org.
