Lexington Street was once known as the Irish gold coast when there was a large Irish settlement on the Near West Side of Chicago. The Street has wonderful examples of early Chicago architecture including the John Coughlan House, built in 1871 at 1246 W Lexington, which is a wonderful example of Italinate Architecture. In addition, do not miss the James Foley Building behind the Coughlin House, which is a beautiful Queen Ann style building, and the William Onahan Row Houses at 1254-1262 W Lexington St.. These Row Houses were built in the mid-1870s out of Joliet Limestone in the Italinate style.
