2d restaurant, the first hand-drawn two-dimensional experimental eatery in the U.S. created by award-winning designer Vanessa Thanh Vu and her husband chef Kevin Yu.

2d restaurant offers a unique dining experience reminiscent of a comic book with a menu features a diverse range of Asian delicacies, from Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches to Japanese mochi donuts.

Recognized as Best of Chicago 2022 and a top 20 donut shop, 2d restaurant has garnered praise from ABC, NBC, Eater Chicago, and more, solidifying its status as a must-visit hotspot in the windy city.

Story behind our unique 2d restaurant experience!

Desiring to transport our guests from their everyday routines to our deferred Parisian honeymoon (originally scheduled for June 2020), we employed Kevin’s beloved ’90s Taiwanese and Japanese comic style to bring this vision to life.

Every object in the 2d restaurant is meticulously designed and drawn to mirror the proportions of actual objects. From the height of the fireplace to the graceful drape curves, every element is precisely measured to offer you an incredibly lifelike 2d encounter.

Created by co-founders Kevin and Vanessa, this project involved over 1,540 hours of design effort, spanning 4 months and using 113 marker tips. Our 2D restaurant tells the story of our postponed Paris honeymoon due to the pandemic, offering a unique and immersive experience for all our guests.
