Red Clay Dance Company makes its highly anticipated return to the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago’s 51st season with 16, a compelling program exploring identity, resilience, and transformation through movement.

The performance features the world premiere of Field, Grounded by legendary choreographer Bebe Miller, whose impact on contemporary dance continues to inspire generations. Alongside this debut, Red Clay Dance Company presents a reimagining of Written on the Flesh, a landmark work by Founding Artistic Director Vershawn Sanders-Ward. Originally created in 2016, Written on the Flesh posed the urgent question: What is the residue of elegant racism, and how is it written on the flesh? This restaging, drawing inspiration from Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste, deepens the inquiry, confronting systemic inequities while seeking resilience, forgiveness, and love as pathways toward a more equitable future.

Following the opening night performance on April 17th, audiences are invited to a post-show discussion featuring Bebe Miller and Vershawn Sanders-Ward, offering deeper insight into the works presented.

Join us for an unforgettable evening where movement becomes storytelling, resistance, and transformation.
