Ring in the New Year with iO Theater’s New Year’s Eve Party & Interactive Comedy Extravaganza! An all-star evening hosted by local drag artist Malheurt and musician Groovebox, indulge in a night of music, drag, improv from iO Theater and Malarkey Comedy, and magic by award-winning John Sturk. This evening of variety ends with an interactive audience participation game show where the volunteers join the comedians to win it all. After the show there will be a champagne toast as we count down into 2025.

Main Bar, restuarant, and lounge open at 4:30pm. 7:30pm shows availble (separate ticket). 9:30 show start. Ticket includes a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.

About the performers:

Malheurt: Malheurt is a drag artist, comedian, rite of passage, puppeteer, improv teacher, punching bag, bar fly, and (with your help) future Senator. They perform with and host many shows throughout Chicago, but would love to highlight “Untap, Upkeep, Drag!” at Prism Games, “Aperi-Tease!” At LOULOU, “The Armando” at iO, and the myriad variety shows of The High Hall.”

Groovebox: Never the same show twice, Groovebox is a vocally looped, beatbox-driven, improvised musical comedy experience that will have you saying, “Why?” and “Oh!” The man behind the pedals (Dylan Carey) is an improv comedian, actor, voice over artist, musician & producer from Chicago. Trained at Chicago’s Second City, iO Theater, Annoyance Theater and ComedySportz, he has been performing for over 16 years. Dylan has worked with TruTV, Fox, Zanies Comedy Club, McDonalds, Bud Light, Ben and Jerry’s, Chili’s, State Farm, and has even performed at Carnegie Hall.

John Sturk is an award-winning comedy magician from Chicago. Trained in improv through iO and Chicago’s other institutions, he has been seen on ABC, NBC, WGN, and The Travel Channel, as well as stages throughout Chicago. He produces and stars in his own monthly show, Magic Mondays at Davenport’s Piano Bar. From 2023-2024, he served as National President of The Society of American Magicians, the oldest magic association in the world. In addition to his magic skills, John is one of Chicago’s busiest improv music directors, having been behind the keys of iO, Second City, The Annoyance, and others. John is an official artist for Hammond Organs USA.
