New Voices in Fiction with Cleo Qian

The New Voices series brings emerging writers to campus to read with a University of Chicago student. The faculty chooses writers that have published one or two books. We have a separate event for Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Poetry. These are particularly special events for our Program because it is one of the opportunities for our students to showcase their work.

Sponsored by the Program in Creative Writing and the College.

Cleo Qian is a queer fiction writer and poet born in California. She is the author of LET’S GO LET’S GO LET’S GO (Tin House, 2023), which was one of TIME’s 100 Best Books of 2023, a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize, longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Excellence, and winner of the 2024 Housatonic Award for Fiction. Her fiction, poetry, and essays have appeared in nearly thirty outlets including ZYZZYVA, The Sun, The Guardian, and The Massachusetts Review. She has been awarded residencies at MacDowell Foundation, Notre Dame University, Casa Snowapple, and the Sundress Academy for the Arts.
