MLK Day Celebration at Chicago Children’s Museum

Join us for our celebration of Dr. King and his legacy at Chicago Children’s Museum through art activities, storytelling, and reflection. The museum will also be open with extended hours (10am-5pm) so you can enjoy museum exhibits!

Schedule of Activities

10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Visit our story lounge on Floor 2 to peruse children’s books on the civil rights movement, race, and identity. Explore resources to help you have conversations with your children about race.

10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Design your own Dr. King Day badge on Floor 2 to commemorate the holiday. Wear it proudly and let the world know what MLK Day means to you.

10:30 am – 4:00 pm: Work with Chicago Artist and Educator Derek Moore in Art Studio to create a collage self-portrait to celebrate the importance and value of children. Ages 3 and up.

Cost: This special programming is included with museum admission!

Admission for adults and children (1 year and older) is $21 per person for Illinois residents with proof of Illinois residency, and $23 per person for non-Illinois residents.

Admission for children under 1 year old is free. Veterans and active military receive free admission every day with the presentation of valid military status identification.

Admission for families that qualify for state food assistance and are in possession of an EBT card or WIC card is $5 per person (up to 6 people) when identification is presented, as part of the Museums for All program.
