For 400 years our spirits have kept the score. Today, we remember the steps and stories of those ancestors that shifted our bodies in the wind, while moving towards a future beyond their imagination.
Whenasked what 400 Years mean to future generations, composer/conductor Isaiah Collier says: “the story of 400 Years sounds like a powerful and evocative project. By blending sonic, visual, and spiritual elements, it seems poised to explore the depth of America’s narrative, especially regarding the complex history of enslavement. Acknowledging this painful past while also envisioning a future free from its constraints is a vital endeavor.”
The 13 movement Suite features a 14 piece ensemble, movement artists and visual media. The Black Diaspora, and the effects of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade are used to illustrate the continued transformation of culture. Music is by Isaiah Collier, choreography by Kennedy Banks, and on stage visuals by Jordan Stewart-Curet. Click here for more information about supporting 400 Years.
