27th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray

Join Us for the 27th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray on Tuesday, March 18th! Baseball fans and sports legends will come together at Harry Caray’s Tavern on Navy Pier to honor the legendary broadcaster, Harry Caray. This beloved tradition, now in its 27th year, brings Chicago sports fans together to celebrate Harry’s larger-than-life personality and his unforgettable impact on the game.

Special guests include White Sox 1983 AL Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle, Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Richard Dent, Blackhawks Hall of Famers Chris Chelios and Jeremy Roenick, former White Sox outfielder Mike Huff, White Sox mascot Southpaw & the Sox Pride Crew, and more.

This year’s event will shine the spotlight on Harry Caray’s White Sox legacy (1971-1981) with a special Curse-Breaking Ceremony, highlighting the infamous “Black Sox Ball” from the 1919 World Series—renowned for its role in the Black Sox Scandal. Discovered in 2022 inside a time capsule buried in 1920 within the old Tribune Tower, the ball was later relocated to the Chicago Sports Museum. The very day it was moved, the White Sox’ losing streak began, fueling suspicions of a curse. The team went from making the postseason in consecutive years (2020-2021) to losing 101 games in 2023 and setting MLB’s all-time loss record with 121 losses in 2024. The ball will now be returned to the Tribune Tower in hopes of lifting the curse its relocation appears to have caused for the White Sox.

Before its departure, the historic ball will be on display, then ceremoniously escorted from the building by security, accompanied by a bagpipe procession by the Shannon Rovers.

After the ceremony, fans will raise a Budweiser and take part in the annual Toast to Harry, a worldwide celebration of the man who brought excitement and passion to Chicago baseball and beyond.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event where baseball history, superstition, and celebration collide!

WGN Radio will broadcast live from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with The Lisa Dent Show featuring appearances by Kevin PowellBob SirottJohn Landecker, and John Williams. Fans attending in person will have the chance to win White Sox tickets, and those unable to join can tune in live on WGN Radio 720 or stream online at wgnradio.com.
