About the Chicago Democratic National Convention 2024

The Democratic National Convention will run from Aug. 19 through Aug. 22, 2024.
The Democratic National Convention 2024 will take place at the United Center, McCormick Place, and other venues throughout Chicago.
The Democratic National Convention welcomes delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and American territories.

Roughly 50,000 visitors will come to Chicago for the Convention, including 20,000 members of the media, and 5,500 delegates, alternates, and other guests.

All delegate hotels are located in downtown Chicago within a five-mile radius and 15-20 minute drive from the United Center and/or McCormick Place.
With over 50,000 estimated attendees, the DNC is one of the largest events on Chicago’s 2024 calendar and will have a significant positive economic impact on Chicago and our local tourism community. Previous political conventions have brought over $150 million in direct economic impact to host cities.
The areas surrounding the United Center and McCormick Place will be impacted by the DNC security perimeter. A security perimeter is a multi-layered buffer surrounding a protected venue. The perimeter typically includes law enforcement officers, physical barriers, and checkpoints.

See maps of areas impacted by security activity during the DNC and learn more about the city of Chicago’s public safety plan during the DNC.

Expect road and sidewalk closures, parking restrictions, and public transit reroutes in the impacted areas around the DNC. Check for street closures and traffic impacts and more information on getting around during the DNC.
There are no planned impacts to CTA rail services for the duration of the DNC. However, there may be unplanned impacts to rail services.

Bus reroutes are expected in and around the United Center and McCormick Place, as well as occasional reroutes throughout the downtown area due to rolling street closures during the event.

Riders are encouraged to subscribe to CTA updates for the latest information.

Metra, the Chicago area’s commuter railroad, will be operating special hourly shuttles on its North Central Service Line between the O’Hare Transfer Station and Chicago Union Station downtown. The travel time will be 36-39 minutes and the one-way fare is $3.75. See the schedule here.

The Chicago 2024 Host Committee is committed to ensuring that all facilities and activities that are a part of the convention will be accessible to persons with disabilities.
