History of Lollapalooza in Chicago
Lollapalooza first began as a multi-city tour led by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell in 1991. After several iterations, the event eventually landed on a permanent home in Chicago in 2005. The festival started as a two-day affair, before adding a third and eventually a fourth day in 2016.
Held in lakefront Grant Park at the beginning of August, Lollapalooza draws crowds of more than 500,000 music fans each year. Fest-goers can enjoy more than a hundred acts spread across multiple performance spaces, ranging from intimate spaces to large-scale stages backed by the sparkling city skyline.
