Open the door to architectural gems all over Chicago. Every October, the Chicago Architecture Center hosts one of the largest architecture events in the world — Open House Chicago.
Since 2011, this free public event has offered behind-the-scenes access to the greatest spaces and places in Chicago, including soaring skyscrapers, historic spaces, private residences, and other areas not normally open to the public. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the diversity and history of Chicago’s unique architectural legacy.

Open House Chicago sites
Come explore over 170 Open House Chicago sites across more than 20 different neighborhoods that have opened their doors for the weekend. This year’s sites include residential buildings, breweries, sacred spaces, members-only clubs, local landmarks, and more.
This year’s participating sites include 25 brand-new locations to explore for the first time, including:
- The Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport opened as a movie palace in 1929 and sat vacant for nearly 30 years before being restored and reopened this year as a restaurant, brewery, and concert venue.
- Chess Studio at Willie Dixon’s Blues Heaven Foundation has played host to legendary artists who have shaped the sound of Chicago blues and beyond.
- Al-Sadiq Mosque in the culturally rich Bronzeville neighborhood is one of the oldest mosques in the United States.
- The Driehaus Museum’s Murphy Auditorium is an architectural marvel with features like a limestone facade and cast bronze Tiffany doors.
Throughout the weekend, OHC sites will host a variety of programs and activations. Take part in fun events, tours, and pop-ups, including:
- Help make a mosaic at Growing Home’s Wood Street Urban Farm
- Take a salsa lesson at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture
- Make a Day of the Dead craft at Graceland Cemetary
- Sample craft spirits during a tour of KOVAL Distillery
- Watch glass-blowing demonstrations at Firebird Community Arts
